My devotional today, thought I share it with you..

The milestones of history are marked by people who have met impossible demands.  Like when our Miami Heat team back in 2006 led by Dwayne Wade came back from a 3-1 deficit.  He led his team through a “what seemed” impossible demand.  Your most impossible demand may seem small in comparison - but not at the time the challenge presented itself.  Perhaps it was taking a surprise exam in school without adequate time to study.  Or maybe it was the time when your church group decided to talk to people on the street about Jesus Christ.  The devotional I read today shows how God put an impossible demand on Moses and propelled him into national leadership.

Scripture: Exodus 3-4 (Yeah both chapters)

Here are some highlights from the scripture..

  1. vs 3:7-10, God heard the cry of his people, He seen the misery they were going through.  And because of that, I believe it motivates God to act on behalf of his people. (We too as individuals, need to cry to God, I don’t believe its just referring to a tear drop alone, but the constant reliance and pleading with our God when we are going through a difficult season in our lives.)
  2. vs 3:11-13, Moses responded to God’s assignment similar to how I respond a lot of times (YOU SURE YOU WANT TO USE ME GOD!!.  2 years ago, my Sr. Pastor gives me a call on a Thursday afternoon, and says I want you to preach this Sunday.  Mind you, Sunday is New Years Eve, so it’s like one of the biggest services during the year.  I thought he was joking, but HE WASN’T.  And instantly fear grips my heart, I’m thinking I have never shared before on a Sunday morning, what am I going to preach on, and a whole bunch of worrisome thoughts!!  I had preached to our teens before, and that was easy, BUT SPEAKING TO ADULTS!!!!  Just like God told Moses, I will be with you, stop tripping, was the same voice that reminded me that God will be with me.  So Sunday comes, and God does His thing.  God helps me to deliver a message on “Next Chapter – Keep pressing forward.”  Not only was it a message for the congregation, but also for myself.
  3. vs 3:12-22, God reassures Moses by letting him know what to say to the people.  God will give both you and I the right things to say to that unbelieving friend or group of people in your congregation.
  4. vs 4:1-12, Moses tells God, I GOT PROBLEMS, I’m inadequate to do this ministry, I stutter, and I speak slow.  God pretty much tells him, am I not the one who gave you the mouth you speak out of.  Pretty much saying as long as I am the one sending you, I will be with you.  As individuals we have that assurance that God is with us!!
  5. vs 4:27-31, These events confirm the Lord’s promises to Moses.

Remember today that God has chosen you to do great works through him.  Ask God to give you courage and to teach you from the example of Moses.  I know I am.  I hope this devotional was helpful to someone just like it was to me.  Here are some questions to ponder on..

  1. When have you felt inadequate to do something God wanted you to do?
  2. When you are sure God is speaking to you, and a specific “Yes, Lord” is expected of you, what things influence your answer?
