I love her!! She constantly reminds me when its someone’s birthday in our family.  She even reminds me when it’s her birthday, cause of course she wants a gift, lol.  But today is my older sister birthday.  So happy birthday LILINE!!!!  May God bless you with many days and enlarge your territory.

the one to the right in the brown the one to the right in the brown.  Both of them are my sister.  But the one in the brown it’s her birthday.  She would probably kill me if I said on my blog how old she turned.  But thank God for family!!!

Well in case you don’t know, or maybe you do know, there is this thing called RSS (you can click here to see what it means) and what it does is, it makes your life easier.  At least to the point you don’t have to always click on a blog to see if there is new information or a new post.  If you have a feeder like “BLOGLINES” (you can click here to go there) it updates on its own.  And you just add to your feeder all the blogs website that you read.  And whenever someone puts a new post, it automatically lets you know.  And right there you can read the whole blog. Real simple!!!  Save time!!! Just thought I let you know.  I never knew, so I fugure there must be somebody else out there who might not know!!!

Check out this new series… May 30, 2008

Labels aren’t just found on soup cans. We put them on people all the time.  Funny or dull. Smart or thick headed.  Friendly or cold.  There are all kinds of ways we can categorize people.  And our categories can have a profound influence on the way we treat people.  James has a few words to say about favoritism.  Check it out:

James 2:1-13

How would you react if someone came into your church who wore sloppy clothes, was dirty or had body odor?

James 2-4 says “Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.  If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?”

I don’t know how most churches would react, but I can only speak from experience, and the truth is, the man in shabby clothes if he were to come to our church 8 years ago, he probably wouldn’t be treated fairly, probably even get ignored.  But over the last couple of years, our Pastor has been trying to change the thinking and the culture of how we treat the less fortunate.  I can almost guarantee now, if a man in shabby clothes came in, he would be greeted the same way a man in a fine suit would be.  And it starts from the top man I believe teaching his congregation what James tells us in the Bible. To not show favoritism and not judge others.

…Oh you know it’s going to be asked!!! Man he looked crazy, in the 2nd half of game 5 against the Spurs.  They couldn’t stop him.  The fade away, the drive to the lane through 2 defenders for the easy lay-up, another fade away over Duncan.  He was unstoppable.  There was another guy who was like that….with the fade away…what was his name…..JORD…… Kobe Bryant is taking over, and I believe he wants to be the best to ever play this game.  He was the best this season.  There is a theory behind the reason he wears #24.  It’s because he wants to be 1 better than #23.  Enough said!!!  Lakers win the championship!! It’s a wrap!!! I’m calling it!!!1

That was the title of my devotional this morning found in James 1:19-27.  I started reading James this week.

WE, ALL DO it.  It’s as common as flies around a horse.  While someone is talking, we’re thinking about what we’re going to say next instead of about what is being said to us.  I know I’m guilty of that.  We know others are worth more care and attention.  But the habit is hard to break.  God wants us to slow down down and listen too.  But even when we’ve really listened to him, we’re still not done.  The devotional talks about also being a doer.  Here are some other highlights from my devo.  Hopefully someone can benefit from this as well.

  • vs 19 – Being quick to listen and slow to speak helps us to be slow to angry because if we think about our response instead of blurting the first thing that comes to mind, then chances are there well be less conflict.  Pastor K did a series called “tongue control” that really hammered that point to our teens.
  • vs 21 – God’s Word is planted in us, but there are weeds that can chock it from growing, which includes not reading my Bible consistently, continuously falling into the same temptation and not putting up safe guards, busyness!!!
  • vs 22-25 – The person who just reads the Word but doesn’t apply what he has learned is not blessed(OUCH!!, thats what the verse says) But if I want to be blessed I must put into practice what I have learned and read.
  • vs 26-27 – I can do all the talking, singing, shouting, saying religious stuff, but if I’m not helping the distress, helping does that are struggling with their own issues, then I’m not religious.  Religious people not only talk, but they are also doers of the Word!!

Based on this chapter Jesus wants me to be satisfied with both doing God works and listening and receiving His Word.  It’s hard for me to listen to God’s Word when I let the busyness of trying to do, and do, and do.  I could remember growing up and going to teen conferences  around our state, motivated to live for God, I promised I would stop certain things or stop hanging around certain people, to only let God down.  I listened but didn’t do.

I see the same thing with our teens today.  Like James says in this chapter, I want our ministry to be pure and faultless.  How do you accomplish that?  Based on this chapter it’s both listening and doing.  Don’t just talk the talk, but also walk it out!!!  I hope this devo blessed someone out there!!

Tonight we had a local group from Miami, handle the service.  Praise and Worship, a couple of rap songs, and a excellent message from one of the members of the rap group called “Unity of Us.”

  • Lesson Topic: Run the race, and don’t let the schemes of the enemy weigh you down!!
  • Attendance: BELOW Average!! 90 teens!! Not making up excuses but I think with end of school year activities such as prom, graduation, parties for graduates probably caused the low amount.
  • Fun Factor: Average (Having a Rap group come in, and throw down some crazy lyrics and flow with the mic like they did, your bound to have fun!!)
  • Volunteer Involvement: Average (A couple of leaders got called out to lead a worship song during the altar call, I know it caught them off guard but they responded well.  Another leader shared a great devo during offering!!)
  • Music: Average (It kind of caught me by surprise when the group lead worship off of a cd with the words singing right along.  So that kind of caught me by surprise, but the group did their thing when it came to rapping.  They flowed and had the kids dancing to their lyrics and beats.)
  • Lesson Quality: Above Average (The young man that shared, did a good job.)
  • Length of Lesson: 17 minutes
  • Student Response: There was 40+ kids at the altar, seeking the Lord.  It was good to see the rap group praying with the kids.

It was a good change up to have the rap group come in and do their thing!!  They did well!!
